DIY - Healthy Candles šÆļø
I loveĀ to haveĀ beautiful candles at home but learned recently how toxic they could be... !
This is why I decided to make my owns and try a healthy recipe.Ā š¤©
I decided to use organic coconut wax and organic coconut oil as a base and add some of my favorite essential oils.
Coconut wax is colorless and odorless, made from cold-pressed fresh coconut meat. It's considered as one of the best and healthiest types of wax to make candles.Ā š„„
Materials you need:Ā
- 1 CĀ ofĀ Coconut Wax
- 2 tbsp Candelilla Wax
- 2 tbsp Carnauba wax
- 1/3 C ofĀ Coconut Oil
- 30 dropsĀ Essential Oil
- Thermometer
- Candle Wicks
- Candle MoldsĀ or Heat-resistant glass jar (12-ounce)
- Fresh or dried flower petals (optional)
Steps:Ā
Melt the coconut, candelilla and carnauba wax in a double boiler over medium heat until fully melted. CheckĀ the temperature with the thermometer until it reaches about 145Ā toĀ 150 degrees, then remove from heat. The temperature will continue to rise until 170 approximately, it's normal.
At the same time, melt the coconut oil in a small pan over low heat.
Add the coconut oil fully melted to the Coconut wax.
Add the essential oils.
Stir to incorporate.
Cool the wax to 160 degrees.
Place your wicks in the center of the mold and use the holder to stabilize it.
Add the flower petals around.
Pour the liquid mixture into the molds.
Wait 2 hours until it becomes solid again. I placed mine in the fridge for the last 15-30 minutes.
Remove from the molds and light them up! Enjoy a cozy moment next to your creationsĀ š
It's also an amazing gift for friends and family, you can use a beautiful ribbon and make a node around to make it look more chic!Ā š
Note:Ā For the Rose flower mold, because it is upside down when pouring the liquid in, I used a match to make a hole in the center of the candle when it was completely solid, then inserted the wick. I cut it 1/2 inch above the candle, and then, voilĆ !
