Being in the mountains made me realize how drinking water to optimize its function in our body can be tricky, as it’s something we never properly learned, so I wanted to share here some mistakes to avoid while drinking water 🏔️

Indeed, the cold and dry weather forces us to drink more and more often, but how to drink without disturbing our system? ❄️

💦 Don’t drink water during meals: it disturbs digestion. Drink water 30 minutes to an hour before meals or 60 to 90 minutes after your meals. This will help the right concentration of digestive enzymes and hydrochloric acid to promote better digestion.

💦 Don’t drink water when you are not thirsty as it can confuse your brain. Excess water in your body can cause hyponatremia (sodium concentration in your blood lower than normal). Water intoxication is real. Your body is your best guide, listen to it.

💦 Don’t drink chilled water, choosing room temperature water or body temperature water is ideal. Chilled water is much more difficult to digest so your body keeps the water in your stomach to first bring the liquid to a higher temperature before letting it pass through the body. Warm water improves digestion and keeps blood circulation intact.

💦 Don’t drink water in a standing-up position: the body does not have time to absorb all the nutrients and flush out the toxins properly. In the seating position, your body is relaxed, and so is your digestive tract, for better absorption.

💦 Do not drink a large amount of water: drink sip by sip. Drinking sip by sip will allow the water to mix with saliva completely, the release of acid in the stomach will be smooth and it will help your digestion.

I noticed a lot of changes in my digestion since I apply these techniques, so let me know if that works for you! 💙

Love, S 🤍
